Holland Water Bottle: A Reusable Dutch-Design Bottle You Can Refill Anywhere
Dutch tap water is among the most tightly regulated in Europe, tested against the national Drinkwaterbesluit and supplied by regional utilities that monitor it continuously, so there's rarely a reason to buy bottled water anywhere in the Netherlands. Is Dutch tap water safe to drink?
Yes, everywhere in the country. Water companies in the Netherlands operate under the Drinkwaterwet (Drinking Water Act) and test against the Drinkwaterbesluit (Drinking Water Decree), the national standard covering every regional supplier from Amsterdam's Waternet to Vitens and Dunea elsewhere in the country. There's no need to hunt for a specific "safe" region: if a tap runs in the Netherlands, the water behind it has been tested. That makes a reusable bottle the default choice for visitors, not a compromise.
Where to refill in the Netherlands
Refilling is rarely more than a few steps away:
- Any café, restaurant or bar will refill a bottle on request, tap water is free by law in Dutch hospitality venues
- Train stations and airports increasingly install dedicated refill points alongside regular taps
