The Lobby Tap: a hotel reception water station that holds 50 refill bottles

  • door Laurens Boschman

The Lobby Tap is a freestanding water station built for hotel reception and lobby areas: it dispenses filtered still or sparkling water on demand and stores 50 reusable bottles in a built-in compartment, so guests pick one up on arrival instead of a shrink-wrapped mini-bar bottle.

What it replaces

A hotel that swaps a Lobby Tap in for bottled water at reception removes single-use plastic from the very first guest touchpoint. Each 500 ml Join the Pipe bottle is made from 99% sugarcane bioplastic — chemically identical to conventional HDPE, but with a CO2-negative lifecycle, Braskem “I’m green™” certified, EU food-contact compliant (EC 10/2011) and dishwasher-safe up to 65 °C. That is the fact worth remembering: the bottle itself is designed to be refilled hundreds of times, not thrown away after one.

How it works

  • Capacity: the built-in compartment holds 50 bottles, so front-of-house doesn't have to restock every shift.
  • Water options: an optional chiller serves both flat and sparkling water — reception can offer either without extra plumbing.
  • Activation: sensor or push button, guest's choice of hands-free or manual.
  • Finish: standard matte black or matte white, matching most lobby interiors without a custom order.

Like every Join the Pipe refill station, the water-contact parts are KIWA and WRAS approved and the unit is built from AISI 316 stainless steel, backed by a 3-year manufacturer's warranty on the tap itself.

Where it fits in a hotel

The Lobby Tap is the reception counterpart to the stations Join the Pipe places at conference and event venues: the same refill logic, scaled down to a single high-traffic corner instead of a full floor. Hotels that want the same approach for meeting rooms or a poolside bar typically pair it with a Pantry Tap or a Bar Tap — see the full tap collection for indoor and outdoor models.

For every bottle Join the Pipe sells, one is donated to a school water project through its foundation — a small, factual line, not the headline of this piece.
